Book Haul! (Dec/Jan/Feb)

I bought a bunch of new books in the last three months, so I thought I’d share what I picked up, along with my plans for getting through this new pile of goodies!

The Conqueror’s Saga by Kiersten White

I’ve been eyeballing this series for a while and now I finally decided to get it. I don’t usually buy sequels without reading the first one (just in case I don’t like it, at least I’m not stuck with a sequel I’ll never read). However, And I Darken was ridiculously discounted, so I figured I may as well pick up the sequel too. I saw that the third (and final?) book is out too, but I’ll wait before I get it and read these ones first.

Firebird Trilogy by Claudia Gray

I bought A Thousand Pieces of You back in December, and loved it, so I went back for the two next books. Unfortunately, the bookstore was all out, so I had to wait until now to get them (yes, I could have bought them online, but where’s the fun in that? The anticipation makes it even better!). I started Ten Thousand Skies Above You, but right now, I’m not really feeling it, so I switched to something else. I’ll get back to this series when I’m in the mood for some SciFi inter-dimensional travels 😛 These covers though!! They are so gorgeous, I can’t even.

Gentleman Bastard Series (#1) by Scott Lynch

Here’s another book/series I’ve been wanting to read for a while. I heard it was a lot like Six of Crows (which, as everyone knows, is awesome) but a bit more mature so, of course, I had to get my hands on it. I’ve started this one already and, so far, it’s really good. I love a good ‘thieves & scoundrels’ story!

Crown’s Game Duology by Evelyn Skye

I read The Crown’s Game last November (and I’ve only just noticed that I didn’t review it??) and I absolutely loved it, so I bought the hardcovers of both Crown’s Game and Crown’s Fate. I had the first one as an eBook but, like any good bookish nerd, I had to splurge and get hard copies for my collection. I can’t wait to read Crown’s Fate and dive into a magical Imperial Russia once more.

The Lunar Chronicles (#1) by Marissa Meyer

Growing up, Cinderella was my favourite Disney movie and princess, so when I heard about this book, I was looking forward to reading it. However, there is so much hype around this series, it makes me a bit weary. I finally convinced myself to give this one a shot. For me, I find that whenever something is crazy popular, it’s usually really average and not to my taste. I’m worried that I won’t like it as much as everyone else, but I’ll try it out anyway. Here’s to hoping I’m not disappointed and fooled by the hype.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
by Douglas Adams

I’m reading this one with my book buddy! My friend and I decided we’d read something together every month, then meet up and discuss it. So for February, we decided to read the classic SciFi comedy, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Neither of us had ever read this book (shameful, I know) so we agreed that this would be a great first read for our buddy system.

Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo

Similarly to The Crown’s Game, I had these two glorious books as eBooks, but not on my shelf. I splurged and finally got myself the gorgeous hardcover box set to adorn my shelf. There’s not much to say, since I’ve already read them, but I will re-read them this year because let’s be real, I have to.

Shades of Magic Trilogy (#1) by V. E. Schwab

34496775Finally (but definitely not least), I picked up the collector’s edition of A Darker Shade of Magic, because clearly, I needed it in my collection. Again, I have this whole series as eBooks, but I’ve been wanting to get the hardcovers for ages. It just so happened that a collector’s edition was released in January, so of course I had to have it. It comes with a black dust jacket (the regular edition is white) and with illustrations of Kell and the gang inside. I died a little bit. I hope that book #2 and #3 will come out in collector’s editions too so for now, I won’t buy the regular edition and I’ll wait to see if that happens.

I clearly bought too much… again. In my defense though, lots of these were for collecting purposes, and they are some of my favourite books too. Apart from these lovelies, I received a few ARCs too (both in paperback and in eBook format), but I’ll keep those secret for now and I’ll review them as I get through them.

  1. I’m sure you’ll enjoy Six of Crows! One of my favorite book series of all time👏🏼. I admit, I’ve never had the courage to buy all three books in a series at once, I always have to make sure I like the first one before I spend time and money on more, ya know? All the same, I hope you enjoy your new books.

    1. Yeah same, I only buy hard copies if I’m sure I’ll like them haha. I’ve already read Six of Crows (and I did love it!) so I’m really looking forward to reading Crooked Kingdom 🙂
